Some jigging tactics and tips to help you get that lunker bass during the pre-spawn. In heavy cover, around docks and brush, use a jig.If you are fishing a pond or lake that has a lot of heavy cover, I recommend you try a bass jig. They can work wonders during the pre-spawn season. Especially around docks, heavy grass, brush and downed trees. Bass are normally in shallow water during the February pre-spawn, so try jigs weighing between 1/4 to 3/8 ounce with a big trailer, this will slow the sinking of the jig, and it will seem larger to the bucketmouth. In ponds or lakes that have crawfish use a brown jig in clear water, and black and blue or black and chartreuse in murky water. Try a green pumpkin trailer for the brown and a black and blue trailer for the black and blue jig. During the pre-spawn you'll need to use your jig primarily in cover, Cast the jig into the cover and let it fall to the bottom. Then shake it a little with your rod tip. This will aggravate the bass into striking the jig. Pull the jig up, and drop it a few times also. Each time you cast into new cover, work the jig thoughly and keep it where the fish can see it. Work the jig around rocky banks as well, working slowly down the bank and letting it crawl down the rocks, shaking it a bit to imitate a crayfish. Use these tips the next time you try for those pre-spawn bucket mouth and with a little luck added in you'll reel in a lunker bass, or two. Win Free Fishing Tackle Click here |
