General Crossbow Safety Tips

  • Always read and fully understand the owner's manual on your crossbow before shooting it.
  • Keep your fingers and thumb below the flight deck out of the path of travel for the string and cable.
  • Cock your crossbow on the ground verses attempting to cock it in a tree stand. Always use a haul line to raise and lower items from the stand.
  • Manufacturers recommend you go the bottom of your stand to cock your crossbow between shots.
  • Use a fall restraint device when you leave the ground.
  • Use only the manufacturer's recommended arrow weights and length.
  • Be mindful of your immediate surroundings when firing a crossbow.
  • Always think of safety first. Ensure that there are no obstructions that will hit the limbs of the crossbow.
  • Make sure there is plenty of clearance for the limbs to move forward when shooting.
  • Maintenance is important. You should wax the string (not the serving) and place a small amount of oil on the arrow track (sides of barrel).
  • Never store and transport the crossbow in a cocked position!
  • As with any firearm, keep your crossbow "locked" in it's case, and in a "locked" gun closet or locker when not in use
